Escapade Backpack: Our old-school rucksack that gets better with age.

Inspired by the old-school rucksack designs of the 80s, the Escapade Backpack has been refined via more testing and ongoing improvements than any other product in the Zorali line.

A multifunctional all-rounder designed to go anywhere

What started as a redesign of our first backpack (the Pioneer Pack), quickly shifted into something much bolder: we wanted a versatile backpack for escapades anywhere. From a stroll in your hometown to trail days in the mountains. A backpack that holds 30 litres in volume, and has 8 pockets, but can still pack down small. One that makes a great carry-on bag for travel, but can also expand to fit a light tent plus gear and equipment due to its versatile roll-top. The Escapade Backpack was born.

Co-designed in collaboration with our customers

The original concept was a bag that distributes weight across your shoulders. Due to community input, in 2024 we added a removeable waistband for days that require a heavier load. We’ve also put a lot of focus on the shoulder straps, designed with plenty of padding and a chest clip to evenly distribute the load. Annnnd, due to feedback from our photography community, we added side straps, which work for tripods, but also for hiking poles or climbing gear. Though we love to dream up new colourways for this two-tone gem, we also love that we can barely keep up with demand for our existing colours. Keep watching this space: given the love we get for the Escapade, and how many we see out there in the world, we can’t wait to keep refining this much-loved backpack for a long time to come.

    Great as a day backpack for hikes!

    I have bought this backpack essencially for my 2 weeks trip in Nepal, to have it as a day backpack for long day hikes. And it served!! It served through the dirt, cold, hot, rain. It perfectly fit everything I needed for a day hike (2 liters of water, jacket, fleece, snacks, camera, first aid kit...). The water bladder fitted really nicely on the back (I had bladder for 1 L though). I also really like the little carabiner clip inside the small pouch to secure your keys for example! Really smart!

    I am substracting one star only for the one issue I had with the backpack, and it was mostly aesthetical. I would imagine that hiking backpack would have more of a mesh material on the part touching the actual back. The thick material actually made me sweat really fast from the back. Or maybe it could be at least black color on the actual back.. as every time I took off my backpack it was just all wet and dark which just wasn't really pleasant.. Second tiny thing is, it would be nice to have some matching (to the size) waterproof pouch for the backpack! But it isn't necessary of course, just a nice addition :)

    Dope

    The escapade is a dope bag.

    Fits under the seat on a plane, looks good on your back when smashing trails. If your a idiot like myself and leave your bag on the floor in Singapore airport when you return 2 weeks later all of your chocolate will still be in tact and not a melted mess due to the awesomeness of the bag.

    Only cons is it is not that breathable and your back can become a sweaty mess like Shrieks swamp when bush walking some may call that a pro as then you get to take your shirt off 😉

    This is your sign to buy the bag!

    I highly recommend this bag for everything! I use this bag for hiking, packing clothes to stay somewhere, going to uni, even rucking where I put 10-15 kg of weight plates within the bag. The design looks fantastic and the pocket locations are very well thought out. If you’re reading the reviews I assume you’re thinking of buying the bag. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you do.

    Great backpack

    I was very excited for this backpack to arrive and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve bought it for a hiking trip in Tasmania next week and haven’t used it for hiking yet but it’s great for grocery shopping, the beach, and all other sorts of things as I packs a lot.

    Great Backpack

    This is my second Escapade backpack, a couple of years ago I ordered one in Forest Night colour, it was (and still is) very good, great design, with bombproof materials, but it has a couple of drawbacks - there is no hip belt (or even loops for a hip belt), the shoulder straps are a bit weak (the padded part is bit short, so the chest strap was going a bit up my neck, so I had to remove it completely).

    Ultimately I saw that this was improved in the new versions, but I was still hesitant whether to order another one, until I saw the new Kakadu Khaki colour version - and I was immediately convinced.

    The updated version is absolutely better - the shoulder straps are better padded, and the waist strap can be moved up and down, so now it sits at the right place and there is no need for me to remove it, there is a detachable hip strap, which is great, but the loops for it can be used for an even more substantial hip belt with padding, which makes the pack even more versatile. The laptop pocket can now be accessed from the side, for me the previous version was also fine, but both options are ok. And did I mention how great the colour is?

    Now I will use both packs - the old one more for a city/office use, and new one for a heavier load, for travelling and hiking trips, it is a great size for the low cost airlines.
